Sea turtles are one of the few reptiles that live in the ocean. However, they are threatened by overfishing, pollution, accidental drownings such as getting caught in fishing nets, and habitat loss, and six of the seven species of sea turtles in the world are at risk of extinction.

One of the lesser known environmental problems is "light pollution." It is an environmental problem caused by light that should not exist in nature, such as city lights. In the case of sea turtles, there is a decline in the population because newborn babies mistake city lights for ocean waves reflecting moonlight and head in the opposite direction from the sea.

By the way, the sex of a sea turtle is determined by the temperature of the place where they are born. If the temperature is low, they are more likely to be males, and if the temperature is high, they are more likely to be females. Therefore, it is also a species that is greatly affected by global warming.
