Tusks are multipurpose and important tools for African elephants to peel bark from trees, dig into the ground, and find groundwater. However, there has been a rise in poaching over their tusks.
In particular, in Japan, they are used as seals. Because ivory is illegal, it sells for a high price, so not only poachers but also terrorist organizations and military forces during wartime kill elephants and sell their tusks to make money.
As a result, in 100 years, the number of wild African elephants has decreased to 3%. It is said that African elephants may become extinct in the next 10 to 20 years.
