The polar regions are experiencing more change than anywhere else.

The surface temperature on the west side of the peninsula in July, the coldest month of winter, has risen by 6.3 degrees Celsius since 1951.

Many scientists agree that polar climate change is occurring at a scale, speed, and severity beyond their expectations.

At Palmer Station in Antarctica, rain has begun to fall heavily during the summer.

The land where Adélie penguins live is a place where it sometimes snows and sleet, but never rains.

The feathers that cover the penguin chicks can repel snow, but not water. This means that many of the tiny chicks lose body heat to their wet feathers and are unable to survive.
